Brief Biography of the College

Background

The Sunnah College of Education was established in the year 2012 by the famous Islamic Organization, the Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’a wa’iqamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS), Bauchi Local Government branch.

The College started its activities immediately with the constitution of the Management team, comprising of the Acting Provost, Malam Adamu Msheliza, Registrar, Malam Mukhtar Abdullahi, Bursar Malam Yahaya Danjuma and Malam Jibrin Muhammad as Acting College Librarian. There were a total number of 63 lecturers with six departments: Arabic Language, Islamic Studies, Hausa Language, English Language, Social Studies, Computer Science and Integrated Science.

The decision of the JIBWIS to run NCE programme by establishing the college was informed by the new policy on Education in Nigeria which made the N.C.E to be the minimum teaching qualification. JIBWIS was determined to contribute its quota by providing qualitative education considering the number of Secondary Schools, Higher Islamic Schools and other post primary schools that can provide source of enrollment into the College.

In accordance with the extent rules, the College approached the National Commissions for Colleges of Education (NCCE) Abuja for the interim and full accreditation of the College. In 2013, the NCCE visited College for resource inspection and subsequently the College gained full accreditation in 2015.

Structure

The College currently has a total number of two Schools, Nine Departments, with 12 programmes, seven out of the nine programmes have full accreditation, while the remaining two are having interim accreditation. The College has a very sound and qualitative Management team as well as Governing Board that operates the College in accordance with the rules, regulations and operational guidelines of the NCCE, Ministry of Education Bauchi State and the JIBWIS National Headquarters, Jos, Nigeria.
